Report on the Sweet Summer Junior Tournament

Players played a total of seven games each round with no ad scoring. Consolation rounds played -- giving each player three rounds of play.

On-court referees were high-school players Griselda Alvarez and Arlene Sambrano. Mrs. Kreager assisted on the desk, and Mrs. Mccaulley was in charge of cleanup.

In the 9-12 age division:

Isaac Betancourt(11) def. Kota Lester(12) 6-1
3rd Place: Micah Patton(10)
4th Place: Gabriel Godinea(10)

In the Jr. Varsity division, age 13 and up:

Trevor Popham (14) def Sean Adamiak (16) 4-3
Richard Mendoza (13) and Thomas Mendoza (13) (no relation) were tied for 3rd place, but the playoff was not played.

1st and 2nd place received Gift Certificates for Sees candy and appropriate ribbons. Each player received a certificate of participation and sweet treats.

Senior Challenge Tennis Tournament

Desert Valley Medical Group is presenting the Senior Challenge Tennis Tournament in support of the Boys and Girls Club.

Sweet Summer Jr. Tennis Tourney

The High Desert Tennis Association will host a singles-only “Sweet Summer Jr. Tennis Tourney” at Hesperia High School on August 23rd. The tournament is for boys and girls just starting compete at either the Beginner level (ages 9-12), or Junior Varsity level (ages 13 and up). This tournament is perfect for those focused on becoming high school team players. Cost is $7.00 per person. See’s Candy Certificates, Ribbons, and Participation Certificate will be awarded for 1st and 2nd place. There will be certificates and treats for all other participants. This is a one day event. USTA leagues forming

Hassan Humayun at Spring Valley Lake Country Club is looking for players for upcoming men's and women's tennis leagues.

On the men's side, Hassan can use players in the 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5, and 5.0 categories, and on the women's side, he needs players for a 3.5 league. He needs a minimum of six players per team.

Support HD youth tennis!

There will be a fund-raiser in support of the Adelanto Tennis Facility at Spring Valley Lake Country Club on Saturday, August 9th, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. The money raised will go toward the Boys and Girls Club tennis program. Bring your racquet and appetite, as food and beverages will be served after tennis.

The requested entry fee is $150 per player, but the Boys and Girls Club welcome any donation to participate. Also, they're asking that each person bring any unneeded new or used tennis equipment to donate to the kids.

1st Teddy Bear Tennis Tourny

Lela Atkins held a small tourney Saturday, Aug. 2nd at Hesperia High School, for beginning players (ages 7 and 8). Each participant received a certificate and a teddy bear. Alex Bentley (age 7) was the winner, with second place going to Jenny Rodrigues (age 8).

Lela is hoping to hold a beginners' tournament for ages 9 to 12 (and wannabe high school players) in a couple of weeks. Stay tuned for more info, or contact Lela.

Ladies needed for women's fall 4.0 USTA league

It is that time again. Doesn't it seem just like yesterday that you were on the court having a blast? This fall's 4.0 USTA league will run from early September to November. Marites Killion be running it as she did last year, and she is hoping to give equal play time to everyone. Home matches will probably be played at Victor Valley College. Let her know by the August 8th.
